New round-up of men's health around Europe and the wider world

The December 2003 issue of Health and Social Campaigners’ News, a monthly electronic news service for and about patient, disability or health campaigners, is dedicated to men's health and includes a round up of men's health activities from around the world.

There are two articles:

  • Men’s health and the new campaigners
The magazine says: For years, men’s health issues usually meant matters of sexual health. Now, men’s advocacy groups concentrate on all aspects of male health. Today’s organisations are growing in size, number and importance. Their demands for gender equity in male health are beginning to influence the policies of governments. Campaigners for men’s health believe that closer links to women’s health groups would benefit both movements in 2004.
  • The Men’s Health Forum: ‘a role model for campaigning groups?’
Interview with Dr Ian Banks, President, Men’s Health Forum
The magazine says: The Men’s Health Forum (MHF) has been spearheading efforts by men’s health campaigners to raise awareness of the need for gender considerations in health policy. The group encourages the formation of like-minded organisations across the world. The MHF’s own development provides a fascinating case study. The MHF illustrates the relationship of advocacy with the subject of male health. The group’s story also symbolises the difficulties faced by any emerging campaigning organisation attempting to spread an important message.

HSCNews gives unique, practical information about the policies and activities of patient groups and disability groups worldwide. HSCNews aims to tell its readers what these groups are thinking, what they are doing, and what they plan to do. Every issue contains an article on a subject of importance to campaigning groups, an interview on policy matters with a senior executive of a patient group or disability group, and short articles on the latest news from various key groups, campaigners’ new websites, as well as new research and publications by campaigners. Each issue of HSCNews also comes with an Excel spreadsheet containing the weblinks of all patient and disability groups mentioned in the issue.
