Vienna Declaration: why you should sign it

The Vienna Declaration on the health of men and boys in Europe provides a focus for changes to the way we approach the health of men and boys in Europe, that will have a far reaching effect on the health all, with five clear calls to action. The European Men's Health Forum seeks the support of organisations and individuals in endorsing this Declaration.

The Declaration has received many high level endorsements. EU Commissioners for Health, and for Employment and Social Affairs have not hesitated to give their full and unrestricted support to the document. They were joined by the English and Scottish health ministries, and by a great number of MEPS and organisations.

The Declaration benefits from this level of support because men’s health is now recognised as an important yet under-developed area of public health. It directly affects the health of half of the population, and nearly as directly that of the other half, life in our communities and the vitality of our economies.

Signatories trust that EMHF will follow words with action. From the end of 2007, our European network will be working with national governments and key stakeholder groups around Europe to ensure these words are not forgotten. A follow-up plan will track progress of actions taken to make the objectives of the Declaration a reality.

Because you understand the benefits of improving men’s health, you may want to join our call for more concrete action. There are no commitments attached. Instead you will gain recognition as a leading edge organisation that not only cares for the well-being of its employees but also for the health of the communities in which it operates.
