Next year 2007 has been designated European Year of Equal Opportunities for All.
Last month the European Commission welcomed the decision by the Council and Parliament to designate 2007 for this particularly important purpose
‘Europeans have the right to be treated equally and to live without discrimination,' declared Vladimir Spidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. The European Year will be provided with a budget of 15 million euros and activities will concentrate on four themes: rights, representation, recognition and respect.
National Implementation Bodies (NIBs) are being set up in all Member States to coordinate national activities and campaigns. NGOs wishing to get involved in these activities are encouraged to contact their NIB.
