The EMHF is backing an exciting new project aiming to use sports stadia to promote community health. The Healthy Stadia project will build on the opportunities afforded by sports stadia as a setting for the implementation of a health promotion strategy.
Delivery will be modelled on the health promotion approach as applied to other settings including workplaces, schools, hospitals and prisons thus applying a well-known and effective approach to a new setting.
EU health specialist Chris White of the North West of England Regional Health Brussels Office said: ‘Sports stadia play iconic roles and are well placed to influence health. Good practice in European stadia will be identified and will help inform the development of a Healthystadia Toolkit which will be piloted across Europe. The results will be used to develop a ‘European toolkit’. The toolkit and pilot results will be presented at a high-profile international conference. Dissemination will be via international journals, local/international media and partner networks. A Healthystadia website will be developed and contain the Toolkit in downloadable format.’
The projects kicks off next month.
