A heavily attended court case at the European Health Forum Gastein sought to identify responsibility for the early death of men across Europe.
The variations of emphasis by member states on early diagnosis were highlighted and found guilty by the jury of health professionals, NGOs and policy makers. Similarly incriminated was the ‘one policy fits all’ approach when it comes to men’s health. A major accomplice was identified as the near absence of outreach systems for the management of long term conditions.
As a result of all this, men with rheumatoid arthritis for instance, are diagnosed late, poorly encouraged to self care their condition while receiving less than optimal treatment and management.
The expert witnesses clearly demonstrated the immense value of health literacy, telephone outreach technologies and the impact they can have on the lives of men with long term conditions through improved management and self care.
The jury returned a verdict on Man being less guilty than the health systems meant to support him. John Bowis MEP presiding, released Man with a caution on future behaviour.
