Rodney was a solicitor in private practice for 20 years before joining the mental health associative movement in 1991 after suffering from clinical depression. 

Today he is immediate Past President and Board Member of GAMIAN-Europe and The European Patients' Forum. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Bipolar Disorders based in Pittsburgh, USA. He is largely involved in the formulation of educational programmes across Europe and in the promotion of good mental health in the workplace. Rodney is also a life Vice-President of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (UK) and a member of the board of the European Federation of Neurological Associations.
