Vienna Declaration Campaign

Launched during the first EMHF conference on October 2005, the Vienna Declaration provides a focus for changes to the way we approach the health of men and boys in Europe.

The first stage of the Vienna declaration campaign – the gathering of signatures – will come to an end in Autumn 2009. During the second stage , will take place a series of debates designed to engage key stakeholder groups - health professionals, policy-makers and politicians – towards concrete action.

Based on practice evidence, the Vienna Declaration for the health of men and boys in Europe urges policy makers and all who can play a role in this area to:

Recognise men’s health as a distinct and important issue

Develop a better understanding of male attitudes to health

Invest in ‘male sensitive’ approaches to providing healthcare

Initiate work on health for boys and young men at schools and community settings

Develop coordinated health and social policies that promote men’s health
