At the end of 2007, a first steering group led by the EMHF prepared the development of an awareness raising initiative about the benefits of early diagnosis of lung cancer. The prevalence being 2/3 times higher in men, the project was to focus on the workplace as an effective setting for intervention.
A second steering group in March this year brought an even larger group of interested organisations. The meeting recommended the production of an evidence based report as a basis for the organisation of a high level stakeholder meeting later this year. EMHF nevertheless pointed out that the project could not progress much further without unequivocal evidence to support the value of early detection and a multiplicity of funding partners.
At the end of June, 12 contributions were received from the project partners and a report is under production that will be published early 2009.
