A two year EU co-funded project to develop an inventory of good practice examples and propose recommendations for more effective and equitable health policies for women and men, Engender will conclude with a public hearing in the European Parliament in autumn 2011.
The EMHF are on the steering group represented by Veronica Wray plus board members Noel Richardson, Peggy Maguire and Alan White. EMHF members Reform and the MHF (England) are also represented.
The project is described as an 'Inventory of good practices in Europe for promoting gender equity in health.'
It aims to positively contribute to improving gender equity in health through the creation of an online inventory database of good practices regarding policies and programs leading to a more equal distribution of health and longevity for both women and men. The project is designed to encourage and support the exchange of information and good practices on gender equitable strategies through the creation of a sustainable network with a multi-sectorial membership.
Partly funded by the European Union, within the framework of the Health Programme, from November 2009 to October 2011, Engender is designed to contribute to the positive development of policies and programs for gender equity in health at EU and national levels, through the provision of policy briefings aimed at guiding policy makers in the design and implementation of health policy.
