In June 2002 the Men's Health Forum, the leading advocate for men's health in the UK, is launching Men's Health Week. The Week seeks to encourage men to take control of their health to reduce the incidence of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, mental illness, cancer and sexual dysfunction, that not only have a devastating effect on the individual but also on his family, friends and has serious implications for employers, government and society as a whole.
Persuading men to be more proactive in adopting a healthier lifestyle or consulting their doctor earlier if they suspect that they may have a problem is one of the ways that we can improve men's health, and this is why the Men's Health Week is of such importance.
To maximise the impact of the Week its important that local communities are reached with the key messages and are involved in the Week in ways that will attract men to taking more interest in their health. Local public services are being encouraged to take part in the Week by organising a Men's Health Week activity in their area.
